Letter To The People

Letter To The People

If you got
Everything you wanted
Without merit or labor
Would you be a better person
Than you were before

Could you look yourself
In the mirror
And say, I’m alright
With the choices I’ve made
I still have my soul today

Or would you look away
In fear and shame
Saying, this is not who
I was raised to be
This is not right

Would it eat at your soul
And cause you to bleed
In a manner you’d never
Heard of before

Would it cause you to doubt
Your own veracity
To walk away from
From all that is noble and good

Or would you come out stronger
With a path laid clean
Knowing the direction
You were going
Was the way you were supposed
To go

Who amongst us has the wisdom
To decide the fate of others
To determine that they are
Unaware of their own destiny

That they can come to be
Better than before
And share the dream
With those they’d lived
With before

Do you dare to dream
Do you dare to do
All that can be done
To be a better person
Than before

Find favor with GOD
And wisdom you will find
A guiding hand
And a gentle arm

Victory

I see the sky before me
As the darkness comes my way
A cloud of unknown origin
Blocks the light
So I can’t find my way

A storm has found my path here
And the lightning strikes my feet
A voice I do not know
Calls to me,
To bow before his feet

A shape is forming inside
The cloud it parts its way
But all I see on the inside
Is the face of my enemy

I call upon my GOD
To cast these fears aside
To give me strength and power
To overcome this enemy

Sword of the spirit
And shield of faith abide
Here in the hands of your servant
For this, my appointed time

Don’t send me out alone
Let your spirit dwell within
That I may overcome
All that come here after me

To strike down my enemy
And take away his life
That I may find the peace inside
That you have for me

Raise my flag, a standard
A story it will tell
Of how I died on the inside
How His life, how His blood
They have set me free

From all that kept me from Him
While I thought I lived
When buried in the darkness
Of my sin, of my misery

Rejoice my soul
Let there be happiness inside
That I may share the victory
And dispel the dark tonight

Freedom

Media sells the lie
As if it’s the truth
Cover up atrocities
Not seen since our youth
Shiny lights and pleasant faces
Speak of little else
Than what’s been seen and what’s been told
With exception for the truth

Wars and wars and wars again
How to make a buck
Turn our people into slaves
Then turn them ‘gainst themselves
Destroy us from within
When not from without
Undercut the belly of
The land of liberty

And so I dream
My nightmare scream
What happened to the truth
Before my eyes
Despise their lies
For our misspent youth

The freedom of my people
Was just a grand charade
Used to keep us all in line
Like people on parade
Time it keeps on ticking
Leading us away
From what we know and what we need
Into a faded lie

Desire for an honest life
Not blinded by their lies
Able to pick and choose
Our leaders for this life
Puppets on a shortened string
We bounce along our way
Never knowing what we say
Is ours or the puppeteers

Longing for the strings to be cut
Just like Pinocchio
But will it lead to freedom now
Or down a darkened road
Who is our master
Is our freedom to be found
Or will we find the truth behind
The curtain strung around

A Righted Ship

I am told by those
Who do not see,
That it’s not my place
To disagree,
That all I’ve learned and know,
Is like the driven snow,
And that they are the ones
In the know:

They raise a clamor
And berate,
Say they show love
While spewing hate,
Is it so hard for us to see,
We are surrounded by hypocrisy,
That the blind lead the blind
Into the sea:

Leaders of this world
Come and go,
Never understanding,
You reap what you sow,
And so they sell their policy,
Believing not in you and me,
But in the plan that they have
For you and me:

And so we find ourselves
In this mess,
Living out our lives
In duress,
We speak against the rocks,
While taking our hard knocks,
While our leaders sit and laugh
As our ship slowly sinks at the docks:

So, who amongst the people
Has the mind,
To right the sinking ship
Ere this time,
To set us upright and free,
A clear and fruitful path
For you and me,
To make us all
Sons and daughters of liberty:

There is only One
That I know,
We should hold on
And not let go,
That’s Christ in you and me,
That has the power to set us free,
All the captives on this earth
That we see:

Shadows of truth
Now seen in the light,
Shine upon the darkness
Dispelling with GOD’S might,
The lies of the enemy,
Set in motion against you and me,
So we may be children
Of the living GOD:

So, gather all your children
Here at your knee,
Tell them of all
You have seen,
Of the death on the cross,
Of the heartbreak and loss,
But in the end all the joy
Will wipe away our tears:

Shall I go on
Or do you see,
What it is
That sets us free,
The blood of Christ on our sins,
The love of GOD invited in,
To join us in
One big family.

The Plan

Always just
A step or two behind
Never keeping up
With these changing times

Who am I to say I’m right
When all of this hits the fan
When after all is said and done
I am still just a man

Chasing after all there is
To have and hold in hand
But who am I to reason why
We should change the plan

Castles in the sky
Building dreams we know not why
And so I find the rising tide
Creeping up my door

My voice calls out, come save me
From this destiny
Barter or sold, hot or cold
None of this is about me

Plan the attack, attack the plan
Bow instead of fight
GOD has said He is the way
Like a thief in the night

Will I learn of what I’m made
Before my time is out
Or will I find myself without
Filled with fear and doubt

Gather ’round and pray for me
Ask GOD for all I’d need
Cuz without Him, I’m buried again
His light I’ll never see
